Morning thank you for joining me this morning

Thank you for inviting me, I am delighted to be here

Can you tell us a little about yourself and background?
I am Scottish, from a town outside Glasgow. My early life was all about music; I was a professional musician both in Scotland and London - everybody involved in music went to London at some point. I have been lucky enough to play with some really good people, some who went on to be famous (and no, I'm not telling you their names). In London I worked as a session singer but eventually went back home. Then I became an education junkie and went on to start my own marketing and design business. Ten years ago I started writing.

When did you know that you wanted to become a writer? and how did you go about it?
I woke up one morning  and decided I would do it; and that's the truth. First thing I wrote was a short story, after that I went straight into writing full length novels.

Can you tell us what genre your books are and the audience you write for?
My books are in crime fiction/thriller/mystery and the audience who will get the most from them are people who enjoy character driven stories with lots of twists - and a fair dash of sex drugs and rock 'n 'roll.

What is your writing process? and how long does it take?
I start with a core idea and sometimes a title. I usually have the beginning and the ending - from there I am just looking for that pesky 70,000 words in between.  I normally write around 6 hours a day and it usually takes 3-4 months. Of course, that was before I went indie. Now every hour has somebody's name on it.

Are your characters based on anyone you know or are they just fictional?
The characters are fictional but something rubs off from every person I've ever met.

Have you wrote about a personal experience in your novels?
Yes. For example, the day before I started writing Old Friends and New Enemies I was at Luss with my wife. A bunch of kids were diving off the pier and an old guy was painting his fence blue. Both of those appear in the book.

  What research do you do?
Tons. Whatever I need. I have had an idea for a long time for a story set in Marrakech. To get background I have made 3 trips there. I read, use the Internet, talk to people who know what I need to know; take notes, study maps and lots of photograph taking.

Who would you like to co-write with and why?
I would like to co-write with my wife because she is just brimming with ideas and understands my style so well; but she insists that I'm the writer.

What's your favorite book?
I've read A Bend in the River by V.S. Naipaul 3 times so I guess I must like it.

What's your favorite food?
Indian and Thai. As they say in Glasgow - I could murder a curry.

What's your favorite film?
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - it always makes me laugh.

What's your favorite song?
All Right Now by Free and Dixie Chicken by Little Feat

How can readers find out more information about yourself and your books?
