The Detriment by David Videcette #review

THE DETRIMENT: A compelling detective thriller based on true events (DI Jake Flannagan Book 2) by David Videcette
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jake Flannagan is back in this fast paced action packed hard hitting story…...Which was certainly worth the wait.

After reading David's debut novel The Theseus Paradox and loving it. Can you imagine my excitement when I was offered an advanced reader's copy of this beauty. And David certainly didn't disappoint, that's for sure the story starts off with one hell of an explosive start. And that was it I couldn't put it down my kindle was with me every step of the day. This series just gets better and better. David is a natural at writing and using his experience has a former Scotland Yard investigator with the Metropolitan Police is clearly shown throughout the story. Which leaves the reader always wondering if it is the truth or fiction.

Following on from The Theseus Paradox we catch up with Jake in a London nightclub where a bomb has been planted outside,a spy is found dead in his garden, and a blazing Jeep is driven into Glasgow airport. Three events bound by an earth-shattering connection that should have remained buried forever…...Holy Smoke what a roller coaster of a ride we are taken on. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

Yes I have a character crush on Jake and he is naughtier than ever in this story. I love it that he doesn't always play it by the book and we get to know a lot more about Jake in this story with plenty of character background woven into this explosive story. Jake would certainly give James Bond a run for his money when it comes to the ladies. Yes he is a Jack the lad, but we do see a different side of him when his ex Claire is involved.

I love his relationship with Lenny they make and good team and he certainly makes me laugh. The banter they have is a real friendship.

This book is packed full of terrorism which might offend some readers. But for me it is certainly an entertaining, nail biting read which ticked all the boxes, giving it a well deserved 5 stars.

Thank you to the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
